LFW: Michael Halpern’s inappropriate glamour

Michael Halpern

London: Michael Halpern has sprung from Central St Martins graduate to one of the most talked about names on the scene in what seems like a matter of seconds.

His high-octane, sequin-drenched womenswear won him the attention of just about every major “partywear special” feature during Fall – and it looks as though Halpern will regain his crown of the king of camp come AW 18.

Escapism is the name of the game at Halpern.  As an American in London, Halpern fuels his worry and woe of his homeland through lustrous escapism; 80’s power-surged shapes came licked in glossy pinks and lime greens, garish zebra patterning winds around the body of catsuits and tailoring, while scarf dresses grazed the upper thigh for the leggiest of diva’s – “Inappropriate glamour”, as dubbed by the man himself. – Anna Ross
