Lee Broom Designs New Soho Bar and Restaurant

New bar and restaurant Old Tom & English is situated on London’s Wardour Street, and officially opens on November 14th. Designed by Lee Broom for brother and sister duo Maria & Costas Constantinou, the space also features products from Broom’s latest collection, Nouveau Rebel.

Around intimate tables and in hidden rooms, visitors can enjoy personally prepared cocktails and traditional English dishes with a twist. “Old Tom” refers to an 18th century English gin recipe and pays homage to Soho’s colourful history.

The interior has a warm and elegant feel, evoking a relaxed and elegant evening of home entertaining in the 1960’s. Broom has designed the space to reflect the relaxed atmosphere of being at an intimate cocktail party or a good friend’s apartment.

Oak and marble have been used to create a bar incorporating multiple levels, vertical panelling and a postmodern fire place. Accessories and upholstery glisten with flashes of brass against grey coloured walls, and a warm red carpet runs through the interior.

I have designed a complete venue concept for Old Tom & English combining all aspects including the interior, branding and elements of the service concept. I thought about the kind of personal service I like to receive in a venue and the theatre of creating drinks in front of you or presenting the food in a way, which considers its interior, like you would at home. The design has been created around those elements and much like the service informs the design, the design of the interior influences the service. For example, marble features throughout the venue in the lighting, the furniture and right through to the barware and tableware we have created. It is a dream project for a designer and I believe will be a real gem for Soho,” says Broom.

This is the first project to feature Lee Broom’s marble lighting collection, Nouveau Rebel, which launched during London Design Festival 2014. Signature cocktails are served in On the Rock glassware, Marble Tube Lights highlight the bespoke marble fireplace and the Globe Light provides a warming glow, creating a comfortable room for relaxation.
