denim trends spotted at the Las Vegas trade shows

It was another exciting season in Las Vegas, as the WWDMagic, Project, Liberty and Capsule trade shows brought together established and up-and-coming denim brands. The S/S 18 collections were on display at the most comprehensive fashion marketplace in the US.

UBM Fashion is constantly evolving. Project Womens launched Coeur X Project Womens, a fashion environment housing a selection of home goods, gifts, tech accessories and apothecary. POOL trade show premiered Outpost, a destination for refined men’s and women’s apparel and accessories. Meanwhile, seminars from the LVCC were offered at MBCC.

The usual denim brands such as Levi’s, PRPS, and Cult of Individuality were present at Liberty Fairs. The event also introduced experimental features, with Calik Denim onsite to showcase its latest styles and innovation insights.

Here we picked out 3 of our top favourite denim trends spotted across all shows for both men and women. Get ready, set, take note!

Theme-Matching Sets: Canadian tuxedo-inspired looks are updated through matching prints, tie-dye techniques, embroidery and colour-blocking. Trucker jackets and five-pocket jean sets are great for commercial looks. Key items such as the voluminous, wide-leg cropped pant lend directional appeal to women’s assortments. Pale blues and pastel colour stories are important.

Design Details- Exposed Hardware: This trend has been reported across a variety of S/S 18 women’s category updates, and remains important among the women’s and juniors markets. Hardware such as grommets, piercings and zippers work as both functional closures and decorative trims on anything from jackets and five pocket jeans, to shorts and skirts. Colourful contrast zipper tape refreshes denim assortments with a sporty sensibility.

Design Details- Back Attention: Attention to the back-side of jackets shows no sign of slowing, with styles decorated in a variety of attention-grabbing embroidery, trims and DIY painted looks. Gucci-inspired embroidery and placement is set to continue, but take note of storytelling phrases and paragraphs for newness. Exposed zipper closures move to the back-side as well with contrast tape trim.
