As we’ve spoken about earlier on the DDD, last weekend was a big denim deal in the city of Los Angeles, what with the Rose Bowl and Rin Tanaka event both taking place. In conjuction with these events, Mike from Rising Sun held an amazing denim gathering in Eagle Rock on the afternoon of Sunday, February 10th.
Most of you will be familiar with the brand as one of the coolest, purist denim lines around. They are a brand with their roots firmly in archival workwear, particularly drawing inspiration from the late 1800s through to 1930s West Coast era, where they both replicate and rework fits, details and beautiful stitched accents synonymous with the period.
We’ve blogged about the label many times over recent years and were particularly excited to see the new Eagle Rock store in person after reporting on the opening back in October. Rising Sun has very strong links with the Hot Rod Scene out in LA and a whole crew of bike and car enthusiasts drove their prided vehicles down to the event. Alongside Mike’s 34 Ford Roadster, was Pauhotl Gomis’ 32 Ford Phaeton, Rudy’s 30 Ford Model A chopped coup, Marion Bledsoe’s 33 Ford Roadster, Tom Branch’s 32 Ford Roadster, Nick Osborne’s 34 Ford 3 Window Coupe, and Bobby Green’s 32 Ford Roadster — an amazing selection of wheels on show!
Food was provided by nearby Highland Cafe, a great place that focuses on local LA fare and of course there had to be serious coffee on hand from Handsome Coffee Roasters, the local choice of brew who have gained quite a reputation in the past six months nationally.
The scene is certainly tight-knit and long-time friends of the brand, Speedbuggy played country music with singer Timbo (a close pal oozing double denim style) Before RT and the 44s took over playing a set of what they describe as Folk Noir with their instruments made from salvaged parts.
The event was not just attended by local fans; because of the events surrounding the weekend, there were some big names from the denim and apparel world including Dave Himel from Himel Brothers Leather Jackets, the guys from Eat Dust denim, the Jack/Knife Denim dudes and AB fits from San Francisco, Atsushi and his entire team from Ai Publishing covering the event for Lightning and Clutch, as well as David from Rawr.
To cut a long story short, it was awesome! Stay tuned for more from Rising Sun here.
