PARIS…Primarily known for his menswear, Kris Van Assche has made a strong move into womenswear, presenting his S/S 09 collection in Paris. These laid back looks recall some of the work he has done for men, but through creative textures and fabrics, items like long basketball shorts, similar to leather versions seen at Alexander Wang, become entirely appropriate for juniors. Slouchy silk tanks in cream and black looked modern with their u-shaped necklines, while mini-skirts sparkled with square paillettes, both items perfect for casual eveningwear for this market. For junior inspiration, consider Van Assche’s restrained palette of black, cream and navy as well as his deft mix of high and low.
