So we’re signing off for the week with an update on this week’s Kingpins NY trade show. Look out for the full report in the coming weeks, where we’ll be combining exclusive video footage from the show with our comprehensive break-down of the key suface trends and innovations.
Stylesight’s Senior Denim editor presented a denim seminar at the event, highlighting the key trends for F/W 13 to a packed room of denim designers and mills from the industry. We also attended the fabulous party on the roof of the building where Kingpins treated us to an array of food, drinks and entertainment while we watched the sun set over Manhattan. During the day we walked the show, picking out key surface and weave innovations for the F/W 13 season.

Bold surface effects took center stage with a wealth of digital technology driving new aspects. Hologram-look oil effects continue to trend, giving denim surface a futuristic attitude for the season and florals were updated with photo-realistic prints. Cotton Incorporated even released the world’s first 3-D denim jean, complete with glasses!

Indigo print and pattern continues to trend with denim jacquards emerging across many vendors. Focus moved to surface texture to update indigo looks with flocking, dimensional weaves and tactile surfaces driving innovation. Laser technology is now being widely used to update classic indigo prints with lasered designs a key denim look at the show.
