DARK WARRIORS
New York: Inspired by warriors this season, Kimberly Ovitz presented a tough collection of head-to-toe black and texture play. Silhouettes combined hard and soft elements, like glazed leather jackets layered over fluid chiffon drapery, and surfaces were a patchwork of matte, gloss, transparency and fur. A series of slinky dresses in shimmery earthtones punctuated the darkness, but kept in theme with armor-like leather sashes and panels trimmed with long faux fur. While the wearable separates felt familiar, the assortment of unique materials — shimmering polished thread, oiled faux fur, and hairy fringe yarn — really pushed the pieces forward for F/W12. —Anna Jane Davis
