Fendi: A collection fit for Lagerfeld's legacy
Feb 22, 2019 | By Lizzy Bowring
THE LIFE AQUATIC
New York: First inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Karen Walker made the novel’s nautical theme her own by adding Victorian and 60s Pop elements, and filtering the results through her trademark kooky-cool lens. Occasional neons were mixed into a traditional maritime palette of red, white and navy, and romantic frills, which decorated ruff-style necklines, conjured the Belle Époque. Metallics were incorporated via hardware, “gold weave” suitings, skinny leather waist belts and a glowing brocade, which featured one of the collection’s several fancy motifs. —Whitney Kessler
