Paris: Japan-born, Paris-based designer Junko Shimada took her muse on a trip to the Middle East for spring. Bunchy turbans, harem pants and a long-over-long silhouette were all references to the garments of the region. Shimada completed the looks with Moroccan-style slippers featuring platform soles. The designer also mixed in classic pencil skirts, cardigan jackets and pantsuits, providing a Western counterpoint to the Eastern influences. Shimada didn’t channel her own roots for inspiration, though Japanese themes have been important this season. Instead, she focused on pops of saturated color and Middle Eastern details and accessories. –Joanna Manganaro
