AN ARCHITECT’S DREAM
New York: Designer Julian Louie’s architecture background was evident this season in a succinct collection focusing heavily on piecing and color-blocking. Juxtaposing the precisely gridded panels, a photo print of vegetation from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden added whimsy to the controlled effect. Simple shifts, drop waist skirts and sleeveless shells were elevated by details like contrast banding and shirttail hems, while a mix of materials including leather, taffeta and two different hands of silk added an element of texture to the basic silhouettes. Chunky clog-wedges, in optic white leather and printed silk, were the result of Louie’s second collaboration with the footwear brand, Aldo. -Anna Jane Davis
