New York: Juan Carlos Obando pursued a disheveled elegance for Fall, wrapping and layering his silk gowns and dresses so they hung from the body with a studied carelessness. Modern and asymmetric, the frocks mixed seamlessly with separates like slim brocade trousers, wrapped miniskirts and silk keyhole halter tops trailing into long scarf tails. These tricks of construction were enlivened further with a punchy palette of mint, fuchsia, tangerine, chartreuse and turquoise, as well as shimmering obsidian sequins and subtle floral appliqué. Obando was at his best combining casual cropped jackets with elegant floor-length skirts, and made faux-fur look sporty with patchwork textures and simple silhouettes. Youthful and yet glamorous, the collection found an innovative urban niche this season.—Nina Stotler
