New York: With compelling tones and playful prints, Jonathan Saunders infused simple separates with liveliness. The Scottish designer is known for his unique handling of print and color, and this season’s collection further demonstrated his talent with these two elements. Saunders kept the clothes themselves simple and classic – ankle-length slim pants, fine-gauge sweaters, pleated A-line skirts, trench coats. But eye-popping hues, including cerulean blue, lemony yellow, grass green, and bright red made the pieces feel new and exciting. As mentioned, prints were a highlight, with the most interesting being an ombré polka dot motif that was used for a wide variety of items, from blouson jackets to sheaths to pencil skirts. The marled knit pieces and a floor-sweeping dress hinted at a 1970s inspiration, as did the oversized circular colored sunglasses that were paired with each look, a new collaboration with Cutler and Gross. –Joanna Manganaro
