John Varvatos

John Varvatos paid homage to New York City with his latest collection, beginning the show with a magical realism-style animated short portraying a young man’s journey through the City That Never Sleeps. New York’s influence was most apparent in the designer’s drab, urbane color palette that featured a slew of neutrals, mostly slate grey and oatmeal. New York’s street-meets-elite aesthetic informed the silhouettes as well, particularly luxuriously rugged shearling coats and loosely tailored trousers with articulated knees that were shown tucked into boots – swashbuckling versions that grounded almost every look.  —Andrew Luecke
