New York: Simple, feminine and wearable, Jill Stuart’s designs need no runway-to-retail translations. And with a celebrity following that packs the likes of Jessica Szohr, Kristen Cavallari and the Kardashians into the front row, one can be sure this collection will deliver quite a punch with the Junior set. For S/S 11, however, Stuart’s refined neutral palette and sweetly conservative silhouettes opened the door to a more sophisticated clientele. Dramatic ruffled collars and long swinging pleats added dimension and movement, while scenic placed graphics depicting a parade of revelers broke up the blocks of black, white and slate grey and added a cheeky touch to the formal looks. For the less feminine customer, Stuart peppered the show with fitted pants and cropped, tailored suits that felt boyish but never androgynous.
