Jewel by Lisa

Freeform mixes of pattern and color are beginning to compete with the wearing of head-to-toe-black in New York City. Using traditional African Ankara fabric, Jewel by Lisa showcased the bold prints with modern slim silhouettes and flirty skirts. Using beading, sequins and patches of colored leather, Nigerian designer Lisa Folawiyo infused the collection with glamour and femininity. Not a solid color could be found in the show, but the embellished ethnic motifs worked together in harmony to create a unique, playful look that seemed to pick up where artist Yinka Shonibare’s recent retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum left off.
