New York: Lunar eclipses were Jeremy Laing’s starting point for his Fall 2011 collection, and what could have turned into a space-age joke was instead a refreshingly earth-bound look to the heavens. Lunar references popped up throughout the collection in prints, crater-like polka dots, and half-moon shapes, but never overwhelmed the pieces themselves. The extreme volume of a pair of great slouchy wide leg pants with a skirt backing aptly encapsulated the collection, managing to be both a playful reference to the out-of-this-world inspiration and completely elegant. Above all, the clothes had a sophisticated worn-in look that is sure to be a hit with the cool crowd–looks like the next breed of downtown it-girls have found their maker.
