New York: Jenni Kayne’s casual suiting always looks like a uniform for a certain type of cool girl who is firmly part of the creative class. Eschewing overblown embellishments, Kayne’s fans gravitate toward pieces like F/W 12’s sleek leather tunics, simple wool overcoats and cutaway camel suit jackets, items that easily integrate into any artistic workplace. The designer’s idea of modern fashion is never cold, an important distinction reinforced this season with the inclusion of fuzzy tweed and light mohair as well as chunky cable-knit sweaters and fur caps. Kayne also paid special attention to evening this time around, creating elegant floral matched sets, airy feathered skirts and sheer tuxedo blouses in stark black and white. Event appropriate without being fussy, these looks were a savvy expansion for the label and pinpointed exactly how the Kayne girl wants to dress up.—Nina Stotler
