New York: Up and coming designer Jen Kao is continuing to build a buzz as recognition for her edgy yet whimsical designs, consistently serving up enough fashion forward gutsiness to impress the downtown crowd yet maintaining an appealing femininity about her clothes. This season was a psychedelic mashup homage to Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet as flowing romantic pieces were given a twisted 90s edge with prints that morphed from florals to stripes to ombre in a single garment. A wealth of cutouts adorned everything from knit tops to pants, revealing slight glimpses of the body, while boldly hued silks had an alluring, airy movement to them that elegantly complimented the intricately sculptural wrist and headpieces. —Shannon Davenport
