New York: Young designer Jen Kao took her girl on a journey through the desert to find her true love. The sand-covered floor and macramé foot decorations established the nomadic theme, and macramé dresses with trailing fringe and tie-front jodhpur pants were key items. Loose-layered dresses in featherweight organza were a giant leap for Kao, who is best known for her edgy, body-con looks, though cropped engineered knits, sharply tailored jackets and corset details referenced her signature style. Trapunto stitching and embroidery added a touch of femininity and referenced the romantic element of the theme. The show closed with dresses in an eye-catching blue and white print that looked like Moroccan tiles, giving the collection as a whole the feeling of finding a broken mosaic in the sand.
