Paris: Jean Paul Gaultier took inspiration from the streets this season — more specifically the gritty sidewalks of New York City. A playful mash-up of luxurious fabrics like velvet, taffeta, and fur were graffiti-ed with colorful spraypainted tags — Gaultier’s own name, of course. Tough, streetwise staples like leather leggings and moto jackets made up the collection, and sporty details like rib-knit bands and drawstrings added a casual vibe. In all the madness, there were some excitingly wearable pieces; graffiti-ed satin sheath dresses, slinky pegged trousers and a sweater fashioned from sheer mesh, worn over a crisp white button-front shirt were easy to covet amid the technicolor snakeskin and fur. —Anna Jane Davis
