Lingerie and corsetry have played a major role in Junior-friendly collections so far this season, so it’s only natural that the king of innerwear-as-outerwear jumped on board. Jean Paul Gaultier brought back the original cone bra, made famous by Blonde Ambition-era Madonna, working it into the bib of silk overalls, bringing sex appeal to striped dresses and and layering peach-colored satin versions under shredded tees and trench coats. The aptly named G Spot show worked the lingerie theme into several appealing stories, from a denim-heavy gangster-girl opening theme to an olive drab military moment and a structured power-dressing look. Like many designers in an uncertain economy Gaultier stuck to what he knew best for spring, but offered plenty of fresh and playful takes on his signature pieces.
