DEMURE ELECTRICITY
London: Electric but demure youth was the main takeaway from Jasper Conran’s F/W 13 presentation in London with simple 60s-inspired silhouettes featuring feminine schoolgirl detailing. Key items ranged from a-line tunic dresses and simple zip coats to swingy pleated skirts and satin blouses with chiffon sleeves, each done in punchy brights or rich coco and cranberry. Rounded collars, oversized patch pockets, chunky turnlock closures and molded funnel necks served as the primary design details while monochrome color combinations from head-to-toe made a strong visual impact. Girly accessories infused a fresh attitude to update this retro-themed collection, most notably the Stephen Jones designed cloche hats, and Conran’s evening sequins added movement to static t-shirt shapes.—Nina Stotler
