Fendi: A collection fit for Lagerfeld's legacy

CHINOISERIE MODERNE
New York: A Native of Taiwan, Jason Wu is no stranger to the sartorially rich legacy of China and its many dynasties. To his collection’s trademark story of feminine refinement, Wu added an invigorating injection of Chinese iconography. This was realized in the form of gold filigree embroidery in medallion placement on the bodice of a Mao-collared sheath-dress, as well an updated interpretation of traditional Chinese botanical prints cut into a soft, tailored silk crepe pant. Offered as a nod to Hollywood’s idealized Chinese glamour, a duo of key-hole cheongsam dresses will undoubtedly earn collector’s item status. Contrasted against these pieces, was (among others) a lace-paneled, batted jacket; this piece’s utilitarian detailing and strict, waist-defining belt alluded to the precise design often associated with military uniforms. -Kibwe Chase-Marshall
