Stylesight’s men’s team previewed the brand new J.Crew men’s shop on Madison Avenue yesterday, opening for the first time this week. Located on Manhattan’s 79th Street and located across from the relativity new J.Crew Collection store, the former bank space is by all means the epitome of a “man den.” Knotty pine walls, detailed moldings, and old-school stainless steel globe lights were inspired by 400-year-old farms in the Swiss Alps. This is the fourth location of the company’s boys-only club, and it offers up the same mash-up of affordable and aspirational styles that seems to be working so well as of late. A specially-edited collection of wardrobe staples (denim, washed flannel shirts, and outerwear) is paired with an extensive suit shop that sells everything from tuxedos to a cashmere two-button Ludlow suit exclusive to the new uptown location. Speaking of exclusives, the boutique is the only place to find special pairs of vintage Levis, Crockett & Jones shoes, Swaine Adeney Brigg leather goods, and D.R. Harris & CO. LTD. toiletries. Look for more of their “In Good Company” collaborations (Timex, Jack Purcell, Ray-Ban), as well as the building’s original bank vault, which houses bags, vintage books, and shoes. Other men’s shops are slated to open in Boston and Chicago before the end of the year.
