New York: For the first time ever, J.Crew took their S/S 12 collection to the tents at Lincoln Center, and everyone from major magazine editors to a very pregnant Beyonce stopped by to check it out. Inspired by Fairfield Porter, a 20th Century American artist known for Realism and portraits that revealed surprises in ordinary life, the collection was heavy on pop colors and a mix of tailored and active influences. Porter’s “East Coast sensibility” and “rough and unfinished” textures translated into a reliable assortment of American sportswear. The company also took the opportunity to provide a preview of its new, upper-end Wallace & Barnes offering. The tight collection of limited edition iconic utility jackets, denim jeans and jackets, as well as accessories, are all vintage inspired and will be housed separately in-store with its own distinct signage. Head of men’s design Frank Muytjens continually works towards an effortless-chic aesthetic, and with posh parkas layered over blazers and a stellar lineup of casual suiting, consider it mission accomplished.  —Michael Fisher
