New York: Felipe Oliveira Baptista paid homage to tennis, influenced by the heritage of the brand and a tribute to the past with a contemporary rendering. The style served the iconic codes of the brand – structured sportswear, Lacoste’s signature colours such as red, shades of blue, white and camel all revisited by the 70’s. Stripes, the crocodile logo and ironic slogan prints ‘René did it first’ and ‘Tennis anyone?’ matched up perfectly with the brands identity and it’s inventor René Lacoste. Beautifully tailored coats with colour blocked detailing mixed with light sportswear established an urban functional look. The spirit of strong contrasts was showcased throughout the collection. Tracksuits were worn with casual tailored coats in camel with headbands which reminded one of Wes Andersons ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’. A tribute to the past charmingly and ironical executed – match point for Baptista. – Christa Kaufmann
