Issey Miyake

Paris:  Amidst the moody Edwardian themes this season, and with nary a suit in sight, Issey Miyake presented an uplifting take on 90s grunge. Slouchy, boxy separates felt modern in his signature pleated fabrics, and a palette of  mid-tone brights and fluo hues added a playful feel. Color-blocked ensembles of woven pullovers and roomy cropped pants (all pleated, of course) grounded the collection, while a wavy, broken plaid motif, painterly brushstrokes, and ombré effects added an element of art. Outerwear consisted of key F/W 12 silhouettes — nylon car coats, super boxy jackets in nubby wool, and the must-have poncho.   —Anna Davis
