Last week, leading Turkish denim manufacturer ISKO hosted the launch of its new book Bluemasters, a release dedicated to the men and women who have brought innovation to denim. Here, Stylesight takes a detailed look through some of the pages of the book and what went down at the two launch events.
While denim has always been a staple in the wardrobe for people around the world, the famous indigo fabric is definitely a hot topic in fashion appearing across major runways, all over the high street and also across coffee tables the world over with the recent swathe of book releases. The latest hardback to appear on bookshelves is Bluemasters, Innovation in Denim, from the leading Turkish denim mill ISKO.
Written by Fabiana Giacomotti, the book tells the stories of some of the most important protagonists and innovations in the denim sector. Split into two parts, the two hundred large-format pages showcase first highlights a series of interviews profiling the 17 selected Bluemasters and the unique stories behind their contribution to the denim industry. Noteworthy names include Maria Erixon Levin (Nudie Jeans), François Girbaud, Adriano Goldschmied, Scott Morrison (3×1), Renzo Rosso (Diesel), Vivienne Westwood (to name just a few), all of whom are photographed at work in their office, at the work bench, in the laundry or in the laboratory.
The second, more technical part, traces the landmarks in the evolution of denim production, with a special focus on eco-friendly cotton growing and such processes as dyeing, washing and finishing, providing a detailed and insightful look into all the backstage work that goes into a pair of jeans.
To celebrate the launch of the book, ISKO hosted two special events, one at Scott Morrison’s 3X1 store in New York and one in Milan, at palazzo Clerici, a beautiful and inspiring historical palace, right in the heart of the city. Each event hosted some of the key figures from the book with guest talks from the likes of Scott Morrison, Adriano Goldschmied, writer Fabiana Giacomotti and Elio Fiorucci, author of the preface.
