Paris: Instead of her typical bohemian fare, Isabel Marant went an edgier direction for fall, sending out rocker-chic looks in a moody palette of black and grey with a little cream mixed in to lighten things up. Small studs, metal cabochons, and silver paillettes decorated the shirttail-hemmed miniskirts, drape-y tops, and wrap skirts. The embellishments built to a crescendo of adornment at the collection’s end. Animal print served as the appropriate motif, but it was manipulated and pixilated, making it feel not quite so expected. For Marant, this season’s erogenous zone was the chest. Knit tops and silky dresses featured narrow cutouts that exposed a swath of skin. Speaking of knits, the engineered sweaters on display were a highlight. Their ribbing, cutouts, and reinforced hemlines made them more than just a basic. Slinky sheer tees are sure to be a retail hit, as well. With covetable accessories, edgy embellishments, and a bad-girl attitude, this collection is sure to resonate with Marant’s hip clientele. –Joanna Manganaro
