Irving Penn and Issey Miyake: Visual Dialogue

Tokyo’s 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT explores the longstanding creative collaboration between Japanese designer Issey Miyake and American photographer Irving Penn with Visual Dialogue.

Having met on the set of a Vogue shoot in 1983, the two createurs began a 13-year journey of artistic innovation.  Though Miyake never attended any of Penn’s photo shoots and Penn never attended a Miyake runway show, a mutual aesthetic appreciation led to an unspoken bode of confidence in Penn’s unique interpretations.  Designed by noted architect Shigeru Ban, Visual Dialogue showcases 250 original prints, posters, projections, sketches and animation, all of which articulate the rareness of this meeting of the minds.  –Christina Mannatt

Irving Penn and Issey Miyake: Visual Dialogue is showing at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT until April 8, 2012.
