The WGSN Future Makers mentorship programme, which was initially open to 10 mentees from around the world, was a humbling experience for us. We received more than 1,000 entries from around the world, with the most engaging and empowering stories. As a result, we have been inspired to select not just 10, but 26 mentees who were matched up with mentors from across WGSN – from sales to design, content and HR – for the programme.
My biggest inspiration would be the life of a woman, any woman, who fights for equality and has the potential to speak for herself. Even in this modern era, women are still oppressed and the women who are willing to break it and heal themselves inspire me and I ought to be one of them in future and become a role model for at least one person in my lifetime.
Yes, there are many, but I’d like to name two of them who are very most inspiring to me. The first is Komal Pandey, a commerce student who is now a leading fashion stylist and blogger with over one million followers on social media. She created the concept of fashion therapy videos and she’s a true fashionista at heart, while also humble and kind.
Another huge inspiration of mine is my mentor from Milan, Giada Graziano, an Italian woman founder of Glam Observer Academy. She’s a fashion stylist and a fashion writer as well as a mentor as featured in Forbes30 under 30. Her writing style is amazing, simple, and informative. She helps people build their identities in the world of fashion through her online courses.
I was merely a teen when I was very much intrigued by the world of fashion while watching fashion shows on FTV, even though I didn’t understand anything. It was my curiosity and my younger self wanted to be a part of this world of glamour, so here I am.
Shivakshi is mentored by Kim Mannino, based in London, UK. Kim is Director of Trend Curation at WGSN Mindset, and provides expert knowledge to the design market, from top designers, fibre and fabric manufacturers, retailers and e-tailers, to hypermarkets and supermarkets.
