Into the Wilderness

Milan…Roberto Cavalli

There’s enduring fascination for the iconic elements of the Wild West amongst the Italian designers and this season Roberto Cavalli, like Dolce & Gabanna and DSquared before him alluded to it. Who can resist thinking of that most American of designers, Ralph Lauren, when presented with a bold Navajo pattern? It showed up throughout the collection, on belts and shoes, even on pants. The latter often teamed with plaid shirts, tuxedo jackets, broad-collared shearling coats and motorbike jackets. The set, a log cabin, drove the message home. In other places, Cavalli offered up more dandified fare that included lush green velvet jackets, rhinestone-encrusted separates and tassel loafers.

Out of left field for a FW line from Cavalli, Some of a spill over from his last spring line, but I love the less tailored construction and mix of prints
