In perusing the covers of the all-important September issues over at Fashionologie, we couldn’t help but notice the preponderance of wasp-waisted waifs. Granted, most of the cover models are wearing Louis Vuitton (the inspiration behind our Runway Roadmap theme Prim + Perverse), the attraction of the corset cannot be denied. Often the fast track to editorial glory, cinched-in waists never fail to provoke a little drama and intrigue. Case in point: Vogue Italia’s shocking image of Stella Tennant shrunken to a 13-inch waist (left) is already causing a stir in the blogosphere. In reality, the Steven Meisel image was Photoshopped as a tribute to the late Ethel Granger, the woman who held the Guiness Book record for the world’s smallest waist and was almost as well-known for her unconventional piercings.
