At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, global electronics company LG launched a high-tech refrigerator that has the ability to monitor and manage food within a household.
The Smart Manager fridge – available for purchase later this year – features a touchscreen computer, barcode reader, camera, and built in wi-fi for online shopping. Syncing with a smartphone app, users can create personal accounts through a small interface and be offered food and recipe recommendations based on age, gender, dietary requirements and the current contents of the fridge.
Voice recognition technology enables food products to be stored in the refrigerator’s memory for future shopping by talking to it, the Blast Chiller has the ability to cool warm liquids within minutes, and the fridge can additionally be set to control other appliances within the kitchen, such as the oven, creating an almost seamless working-kitchen environment.
