Innovation: Swallowable Parfum

Lucy McRae, a body architect and artist from Australia has concocted a digestible scent capsule with synthetic biologist Sheref Mansy, called Swallowable Parfum.

Naturally, a perfume will develop and alter in scent and potency according to its wearer, and this pill-form fragrance is no different; factors such as stress level, sexual arousal and body temperature will affect the natural secretion of perfume through the body’s perspiration, making the scent entirely tailored and personal to its wearer.

“Swallowable Parfum is a cosmetic capsule that enables human skin to emit a genetically unique scent about who we are and how we perform our identities. Once absorbed the skin becomes a platform, an atomizer; A biologically enhanced second skin synthesized directly from the natural processes of the body, redefining the role of skin.”

Currently in its preliminary research stage, this incredible project not only enables us to envision how we might purchase beauty products over the next few years, but it additionally highlights shifting patterns in consumer behavior – and how designers are becoming more intuitive to the want for individuals to express their own uniqueness when using lifestyle products.
