With the advent of synthetic biology and Biotechnology, scientists and designers are recognizing that nature is a dynamic force that changes with humanity. The current exhibit Alter Nature: We Can in Hasselt, Belgium seeks to reveal different ways in which artists can manipulate, displace and transform nature.
The exhibit features the work of over 20 international artists including Daisy Ginsberg (UK), Driessens & Verstappen (NL) and Adam Zaretsky (US) who make art that occupies a space between the realm of the aesthetic and science
The exhibit does not take a stand, however, but it does seek to establish that there are two sides in the long debate of science versus nature.
The exhibit runs until March 3rd, 2011.
