BIRDS OF A FEATHER
New York: For S/S 2012, designer Valentino Vettori revamped last Fall’s moody avant-garde basics into elegantly draped separates. Items inspired by exotic birds and talking parrots came in woven leathers and bright tropical colors, and while Vettori’s signature motocross jackets returned, goddess-style draped tops and dresses were the standout pieces of the show. Sophisticated silky separates like cowl-necked tunics, voluminous harem pants and a floor-sweeping wrap skirt, established that the IMPROVD girl has grown up. After only two seasons, Vettori has transformed a line comprised primarily of sporty leather jackets and stylish sweats into “affordable couture”. –Jamie Thomas
