I’m A 90s Girl…

There’s been so much chatter around Stylesight’s offices lately about the resurgence of the early 90s grunge movement and how it continues to influence fashion – particularly amongst the juniors and contemporary markets. This brings me to open-up about our current obsession with combat boots…especially after noticing yesterday, that even with humid 90-degree weather experienced in NYC,  young girls have forgone their strappy sandals in favor of chunky combat boots.  Now, I’m not talking just speaking of widely mass-produced military boots…more like the authentic styles from iconic British-brand Dr. Marten’s (whom, by the way, is definitely having a moment) synonymously associated with the 80s punk era.  What’s worth noting is the edgy juxtaposition of flirty feminine looks like floral rompers and sweeping maxi skirts styled with denim vests — all grounded with very masculine boots.  Cut-off shorts, shredded tights…it definitely smelled like teen spirit. On the subtler flip-side, we often reference movies Empire Records (1995) and Clueless (1995) for their contribution to the current schoolgirl-meets-indie-grunge presently influencing youth culture.  It just may be time to add these classics to your Netflix queue.

Below check out my top picks from two of my favorite brands that utterly defines this moment.  Take note of the chunkier proportions (so 90s!) and aggressive platform lug soles.
