Last week we went along to Illamasqua’s new Gel Sculpt & Gel Colour product launch and met the lovely Alex Box – the brand’s creative director. The event – which took place at the make-up brand’s flagship London store on Beak Street – showcased the unveiling of three new contouring sticks. Contouring products are a hot trend in beauty right now, with a whole host of brands launching new colour cosmetics for this.

The three products from Illamasqua includes the Gel Sculpt, a light gel textured contouring stick that appears black in the tube, but is actually a subtle brown when applied to the skin; Gel Colour is a high pigmented cheek colour in pink and apricot. “Gel Colour is designed to give the most convincing, fresh flush to the cheek,” explained Box. “It mimics nature in that you can see your skin through the colour and unlike cream or matte blushers; its transparency is what make it feel fresh and real.”

The products are designed to create a “real” sculpted natural look and Box recommends applying it with the palm of the thumb – which is exactly the same size as the cheeks – and pressing the colour onto the cheekbones and then blending it out to achieve a contoured look.

Gel Colour is available in Fluster (a delicate pink) and Charm (a fresh apricot) and Gel Sculpt comes in one shade, Silhouette (a sheer coffee).
