The holiday season is here, a time for reflection and excitement for the year ahead. To help you take stock, reminisce about the good times, and get excited for 2017, for the entire month of December your WGSN global editors are cutting through the noise to deliver you, our “WGSN #ICYMI” rundown.
It’s a rundown of the coolest most viral moments of the year, the most innovative ad campaigns, plus the sites and sounds that should be on your radar now, so that come 2017, you can say, ‘oh I already knew that was going to be HUGE this year’.

This is the year TV went tech. Maybe it’s because we all have the latest iPhone and the Amazon Alexa and our lives are dominated by technology, so it made sense that our entertainment was too. A number of shows put tech utopia and dystopia front and center.
Black Mirror was the best show that did this for me; I watched the whole series and loved (but was subsequently terrified by) how it imagined our tech-fuelled future.

I loved the episode where the characters walked around with ratings on them the way we might rate Uber drivers and Tinder dates now, and some plot lines were so dark it made me look at my computer screen a little differently. But, all in all it was great entertainment and as VR, AR, and the future of tech continue to evolve it will be interesting to see what shows like this and Westworld got right and what they got wrong.
