Icons from bygone days at Derek Lam

New York: Derek Lam presented an individualistic simple collection with the right amount of diversity. This season Lam embodied actresses like Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, Dianne Wiest and Katharine Hepurn, “New York heroines”, he called it.
His inspiration was abstractly executed rather than literal, a touch of the Seventies was noticeable. Trousers were flared in a play with proportions, either cropped or floor-sweeping Some were colour blocked with a tuxedo stripe, worn with simple wide sweaters or turtlenecks which reminded us of school girl uniforms while shiny patent leather lent the deserved edge. Fur coats and suede dresses transformed 70’s icons staples into nowadays fashion. One of the designer’s signature pieces had been customised with new features such as a hood and a wide stand-up collar imbued in double-face cashmere with a contrast inside. . – Christa Kaufmann
