Marc Jacobs joins the ranks of the designer surf trend this season, with the newly released MJ Surfboard. Made of pretty standard materials, including foam and fiberglass, the board will retail for $1785.00 USD in Marc by Marc Jacob stores. The graphics are a little cheeky and intentionally ironic, featuring universal surf symbols… the Yin and Yang as well as the Shaka brah. We are super curious to know who was responsible for shaping the board….we’ll keep you posted on that bit of information
We mentioned the Chanel Surf boards a few months ago, gaining tons of attention from “fashionathletes” all over the world.
For the Spring 2010 pre-collection, Proenza Schouler stepped it up and released a hand-crafted carbon fiber short board with a rice paper wave graphic inset in the epoxy resin. The board was an exclusive collaboration by Kima Zabete (where it is being sold exclusively) and shaped by Ken Trinder of Shire Board Company, retailing for $2,995.00 USD.
Last but not least, the collaboration between entrepreneur/graffiti artist/nightlife icon André and Quiksilver, made waves in late 2009. We loved the low-fi interpretation of artwork reminding us of airbrushed vans and boards from the 70s.
