London: Christian Dior alumnus Huishan Zhang enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive response to his debut show at London Fashion Week. The collection drew elements from his Chinese heritage; necklines were high, calling to mind Mandarin collars, and prints featured pagodas and mah jong tiles. Zhang favored the piecing and mixed materials that many other London designers showcased this week, but the restraint and modesty he exhibited revealed a level of maturity that even some of the more established names lacked. It will be exciting to see how this promising designer’s work develops in coming seasons. –Joanna Manganaro
