How to style your slip dress this summer

Unpredictable weather in the summer months can make dressing for the range of temps (rain, sun, thunderstorms, wind etc) a challenge. However, there is one item of clothing that sums up the summer months and can be styled up or down, pared with a white tee for daytime, or exposing that flash of skin for the evening: we’re talking about the slip dress.

From directional newcomer to wardrobe staple, the ubiquitous slip dress offers a versatile yet on-trend option for effortless summer dressing. This season, both the catwalk and street style stars have embraced this item, which is a nod to a multitude of trends from 90s grunge to Gucci-esque modern femininity. In terms of styling, the luxury labels are opting to have models wear it as an overlayer for an eclectic look, that feels a little tougher and offsets the sheer, satin or lace fabrics with cotton tees. Alternatively, look to minimalist ready-to-wear brands such as Protagonist and opt for weightless silks in the season’s new fashion brights (rather than the traditional black or cream slip dress staple).
