House of Holland

London: Henry Holland has evolved what began as an assortment of cheeky, pun-emblazoned T-shirts into an undeniable brand-of-note within London’s Fashion Week calendar. His is an aesthetic world often informed by youth’s boisterous color and playful energy, which he translates into attention-getting sportswear. For F/W 12, Holland appeared to color with every crayon in the box, producing the sort of pieces that would make Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang smile. Candy-apple, grape, and bubblegum tones were cast in large-scale houndstooths (think psychedelic-Trigere) and zigzag prints, while solid-tone jerseys were cut into flare-leg pants and a body-conscious jumpsuit. The use of faux-fur sleeves brought Jim Henson’s puppets to mind — and even more intriguingly — artist Nick Cave’s work, when the hairy material became a delightfully monstrous pieced coat. —Kibwe Chase-Marshall
