New York: Houghton designer Katharine Polk looked to a new demographic for inspiration this season, finding her muse among woman of a certain age. But the octogenarians Polk had in mind are no shrinking violets, and her F/W 13 collection channeled the chic eccentricity of their Upper East Side habitat via jewel-toned leather, velvet and satin accentuated with laminated lace, silver fox fur and ostrich feathers. Shimmery and fluid, soft suiting and tie-neck blouses had an 80s vibe, while strapless dresses came with modern pockets. Theatrical yet classic, the presentation perfectly captured the confident cocktail culture of New York’s original ladies who lunch.—Nina Stotler
