Ace Hotel has quickly become a hotbed of innovation and whimsy on the New York scene. Just in time for Valentine’s Day last week, the hotel opened two new retail outposts for Project No. 8 and Opening Ceremony, each featuring a selection of goods specifically for the Ace. Among Opening Ceremony’s offerings are a special edition O.C. travel kit (complete with toothbrush, floss, tube squeezer, and case) and an exclusive eyewear collection by German frame makers Illesteva. Another cool collaboration includes Opening Ceremony’s version of Tumi, transforming the techy black luggage into fresh fruit-loop colors, each made in a limited run of 100. And O.C. at the Ace is also one of the few spots in NY or even the U.S. where you can find the 1/2 Mr. Hollywood line of suits from hard-to-find Japanese brand N. Hollywood. Next door the folks behind Project No. 8 have curated No. 8a, an anti-souvenir shop of sorts. As an alternative to average hotel gift shop fare, artists Tobias Wong and Josee Lapage collaborated on a special “Tribute Collection” exclusively for the store that includes candy pretzels (courtesy of Papabubble), vintage 42nd street peepshow tokens, and an I <3 NY snow globe featuring a mini floating trash bag. Buying souvenirs has never been so chic.
