New York: Honor designer Giovanna Randall turned away from saccharine sweetness for Pre-Fall, choosing a more honed and tailored aesthetic. The saturated, vibrant colors so popular with designers lately lent her elongated blazers, skinny stretch trousers and structured dresses an automatic sense of modernity, while abstract brushstroke prints added dimension to silk jumpsuits. Leather touches toughened up the more youthful pieces, making a fitted peplum top edgy and adding urban flair to high waisted shorts. Plunging, notched necklines and overcoats without collars were an angular, graphic choice; however, the collection’s actual graphics, a black and white horse design, detracted from the overall message of grown-up restraint.—Nina Stotler
