While reporting on top surfing contests, the Active Team was also able to hit up the 38th annual Honolulu Marathon last weekend. (We cover it all folks!) It was pretty amazing to see a wide scope of people running in the race – from those young and old, to elite athletes who don’t miss a day of training. Considering we’re just coming off of the ING New York City Marathon from last month, running, of recent, is still center stage for us.
Top runners Nicholas Chelimo from Kenya came in first place for men and 22-year-old Belainesh Gebre from Ethiopia was number one for the women’s division, clocking 2:32:13.
We saw a handful of interesting running trends throughout the marathon. Neon brights on footwear and hues of pink – even for men – were just about everywhere. Conditioning pants, like those from CW-X, were the uniform for Japanese athletes running in the race that flew over from Japan. Running skirts keep gaining momentum for ladies in a variety of colors and lengths and last but certainly not least, vibrant and colorful therapeutic taping from Kinesio maintains a solid placement for support in recouping broken down muscles.
Stay tuned for more active coverage…especially the Hawaiian surf contests. We’ll have lots to show come the New Year…
