HONG KONG: Nadim Abbas Absolut Art Bar Opens for Art Basel Hong Kong

In time for this year’s highly anticipated Art Basel show in Hong Kong, Absolut is opening an experiential art bar today in collaboration with Hong Kong artist Nadim Abbas. Entitled Apocalypse Postponed, the bar explores a post-apocalyptical environment, from sandbag-covered walls down to a blood bar. “Apart from being a tongue-and-cheek reference to the film Apocalypse Now, the title Apocalypse Postponed flips the archetypal trope of a dystopian post-apocalyptic setting on its head. How would you react if you discovered that the indefinite deferral of the apocalypse was really the apocalypse that was always and already present?” Nabbas asks. Open nightly from today 13 May – 17 May, the bar is located in Soundwill Plaza II – Midtown, in Causeway Bay. Cocktails such as the 2666: A Space Cocktail, a beetroot cocktail served in a blood bag were created with an Absolut mixologist and play on nutritional supplements in specific environments such as wartime rationing or space travel. A nightly program of DJ sets, live music and screenings will change daily and includes local creative such as Meta Fog, Pando’s People and Atomic Bubbles.-Babette Radclyffe-Thomas
